Chadster 0 Posted December 6, 2007 Morning, I was wondering, I got a 8hp briggs with recoil start and I just bought a 8hp eletric start... Can i switch the fly wheel and put the recoil start on the electric start engine?? I just want the mower to be as original as possible and it did not come with electric start. I thank you for your in put in advance. Thank You... Chad.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted December 6, 2007 Chad, some early engines with recoil start with the option of electric start used the starter/generator as the electric option. On the later models with ring gear flywheel and gear drive starter the they used an alternator under the flywheel to charge the battery. This would mean that depending on when the engines were made the engine block may not have the mounting studs under the flywheel to mount the alternator. Otherwise the flywheel and starter should interchange without any problems.
