cojo92 1 Posted December 10, 2007 I want to replace my breaker point coil with a briggs magnetron coil. Does anyone know what the magnetron coil part number is? I will be replacing the stock #298968 coil and points/condenser? My engine is a B&S Model 170700 series 1969 7 hp vertical shaft. Thanks
RayS 79 Posted December 10, 2007 You may need to have the flywheel repolarized. You would have to send it to Briggs to have that done. It would be less of a head ache to just replace the points with a Nova II electronic ignition module.
Chris727 1,851 Posted December 11, 2007 I have put magnetrons on several of the 7 and 8 hp vertical engines without reploarizing the flywheel and had good results, these were old engines from the 60's.

powerking_one 0 Posted December 12, 2007 Clarification: Only the Briggs cast iron singles built before 7/31/81 (9-16HP, 23xxx-32xxx)models had this flywheel magnet polarity issue. None of the L-head vertical singles with points & 2-leg coils had this concern. The PN for the Magnatron conversion (add-on module) is 394970 and is much cheaper than buying the complete Magnatron coil assy. Tom (PK)
cojo92 1 Posted December 12, 2007 I have to replace my coil due to a rodent removing all of the spark plug wire insulation. So I am looking for the complete Magnatron coil assy part number. I want to eliminate the points and replace the coil. Thanks
