A/C 620 gears inside the transaxle

This is my first time , so I hope I'm doing this right. I have a 1974 A/C 620. It is currently powered by a 22 HP Kohler Command engine. Recently while replacing the axle seals I decided to look at the gears inside the transaxle. Herein lies the problem; the 23 tooth gear which meshes with the double (lo-2nd) gear is rather badly chipped, worse than any other gear in the transaxle. Plus I found a fair sized flake of a tooth on the trans filter when I removed it, and I'm told the sunstrund hydro pump doesn't like dirt, let alone bits of gear tooth. No teeth stripped yet, just chipped on the edge where I've ground it too much over the years. The part # is 170825, and it goes on the input shaft. I can't get it thru any A/C or Simplicity dealer nor thru Briggs & Stratton. I'm really needing to use my #1 garden tractor. Of course I use 2nd gear more than either lo or hi. HELP!!!!!!!

Welcome Mark, You definitely don't want metal floating around inside anything to do with your hydrostat. The thing to do is to list your needed parts in our classified section or see if you can find it salvaged through one of our fine sponsors who do such salvage work.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
