jdm 0 Posted December 28, 2007 My main snow tractor failed me, or me it. I needed to charge the battery to get it running and when I went to use it it seemed when the charge in the battery was gone, so was the running. I tried another battery. Same thing. 8 Horse Kohler. It is not a starter/ generator setup. How do I troubleshoot this thing?
dirtsaver 1 Posted December 28, 2007 Jim I assume you have a alternator/stator charging system. Do you see a wire/s coming from under the flywheel to the wireing harness? There are several variations of that system. Some of the more simple ones have an inline diode serving as a voltage regulator. It's possible that diode is blown. Otherwise the stator may be shorted or the magnets may have come loose. That requires pulling the flywheel to repair. Larry
Tom_Byrne 0 Posted December 30, 2007 MY TWO CENTS: Try cleaning all your electrical contacts- you would be suprised how often corrosion might be the culprit with charging/starting issues.
