Lift for Disc harrow

I'm getting ready for spring. I found an old disc harrow (not Simplicity) that I want to mount. This unit is small (8 - 12" discs), but it is not built like today's Agri-Fab or Brinly units. No need for additional weight, the thing weights over 150 lbs. It's too heavy for the electric lift, but I can lift it using the manual lift. I'd like to use a Simplicity lift design (either one point sleeve or two point hitch), but I'm afraid it will snap the lift cable if I hit a bump with it in the raised position. Other than installing wheels or making a dolly, do any of the experienced users have a suggestion or opinion?

Remember that there front hitch you made Herb? And do you remember what I said about putting barbell weights on it? [You are going to need all the weight you can put on it and then some just to get that there plow off the ground] :}other wise you will be building muscles you forgot about. How about putting a heavier cable on it? I did mine and I know that it will not break with that much weight "but" its the leverage thats going to cause the problems in my opinion hanging out that far back. Or are the disk in a striaght line verses a v-pattern. You sure will be able to pull wheelies whether you want to or not without weight in the front. I don't recall what size cable I used but its rated at 500lb and I have 3 cable camps at each end of its loops. I just had to throw some kidding in on this one and I hope it wasn't to much. Let us know how you make out, >>->happyjack<-<<

Dana, thanks for the link. I already have the lift, my concern is the cable strength. Jack, I just installed a new factory cable, that's why I'm concerned about breaking it. If nobody has another solution, that's a good suggestion about using a heavier cable. You may be right about needing to add weight to the front. I found a pile of "junk" and the disc was part of it. It was completely rusted, but I've got it free. It is well made, completely adjustable, and REALLY heavy. The link below are pictures. The orange painted metal is not part of it, I am just fooling around with that. Does anybody know what make it may be? There are no markings.[A href='http://home.att.net/~herb.niewender/disc/disc.htm']http://home.att.net/~herb.niewender/disc/disc.htm[/a]

Herb, Not sure but, it does look a little like a david bradley(Sears) attachment. there is a link I will try to attach to a website. Chris I went and looked but couldn't find anything. I thought i had seen something similar on a small two wheeled garden tractor. chris[A href='http://users.supernet.com/pages/gtreible/']http://users.supernet.com/pages/gtreible/[/a]

I have no real idea of what the set-up is, but is it possible to raise the harrow with the cable lift and then attach a chain for transport?

Chris, Thank you so much for that link. I have come across individual pages from that site before, but never knew the address of the home page. Everyone interested in old tractors should take a look.... it is interesting. *************** Peter, I took your advise and used a chain for transport so I could make a couple of test runs. *************** Karl, You have a great eye! How did you know what that was from the little bit shown in my pix? After I read your message, I found a picture right on this site. Not knowing it was a Simplicity attachment, I was going to chop it up for parts...... You saved it from my torch. You installed hydraulics on a 3416H shown on your web site. What are those components from? I have hydraulics from a 3 deck Jacobsen golf course mower that look very similar, that I was planning to use myself.[A href='http://www.geocities.com/simplicityva/winter/hydraulic.html'][img src='http://home.att.net/~herb.niewender/cultivator.jpg'][/a]
