36"snowblower

I have a 36" single belt snowthrower on my 64 landlord that when i hit heavy snow the pto lever works it's way towards me and i have to keep pushing it back in to engage the pto. Is there a procedure to adjust the spring that keeps tension on the belt. I has a new belt and they are saying we might have the biggest storm here in CT. in quite some time. Thanks for any advise.

Thanks Jack, the 3" dimension is what i think I need. I love snowblowing but with this huge storm lingering I wish I had my f-250 plow truck still. I have not seen 24"s of snow in my life.(at least not from one storm.)
