swood 0 Posted March 14, 2001 Looking for advice or direction on changing coil on B-112. How big a job. Do you have to pull engine? I was thinking to change points and condenser also. Any help would greatly be appreciated....Scott

carter 0 Posted March 14, 2001 Scott, There is a nasty little trick you can do if you don't want to pull the engine. With the external points you can easily convert the engine to battery ignition with a coil and a non grounding ignition switch. The only hard part is removing and repalcing the switch. A bit of sheet metal has to be removed and reinstalled. Ron Carter
Cal 0 Posted March 14, 2001 Hi Ron is right change it to bat. ign. better starting and you don't have to remove the engine. I have found the best coil that works is a Kohler for bat. ign on any 10-16 hp. it has a resister inside so you don,t have to wire one in put the coil on cyl. head & it won,t show when hood is on. dlcentral 1 Posted March 15, 2001 Why do you want to change the coil?Does it jump a gap of over 1/4"? If so, then there's nothing wrong with it!Or does it act up/miss,etc. when it's hot? Now that's a sign of a defective coil.I believe;'if it ain't broke,,,DON'T fix it!'The replacement coils, points of today do NOT have the same quality as the old stuff, and I mean OEM not aftermarket,,,, that is really bad stuff!.IMHO.
