Sickle Mower

A friend of mine has a sickle mower that he once used on a B-10. It is not original to the tractor and he cannot find any numbers on it. He has offered to sell it to me for use on my 3416H. I have not looked at it yet. Is it even worth looking at or are the B-10 and 3416H different enough that I have little hope of making it work. The "What Fits" section shows only 1 sickle bar for the 3400 series and it appears to be only for the 3400 and 7000 series tractors. Thanks, Brent

Brent, I believe that it is possible to run the sickle bar mower on the 3416, but I have never actually done it. This is what I believe you would have to do. You will need to get a PTO assembly off of a B-Series that has the third(small 4" pulley) on it. You would need to remove your current PTO and put the one off the B-Series on. Then find the right length belt. You will not be able to lift the sickle bar as the footrest on the 3416 will prevent it, but it should mow. Always remember to only operate at half throttle when running a sickle bar or you will tear it up. Running at half throttle is not good for a hydro.

I brought the sickle home tonight to look at. Also looked at the operation manual on this site. If I have to change the PTO I'm not gonna mess with it. I intend to hitch it up this weekend and assess the situation. If it's not gonna work, are there any interested buyers out there so I can let the current Owner know? Thanks, Brent

the sickle bar is designed to take power off the tractor with a 4" pulley in order to obtain the proper speed. It may be possible to mount a 4" pulley on your 3416. It will need to be on the right side as you sit on the tractor.
