geo712H Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I have a 1977 712H 12 hp Kohler , I can't get the eng to turn over, I've ck'd the starter & battery both are good, I don't know how to ck the safety switches, can anyone guide me as what to do next, thanks
RayS Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 solenoid? You can check the safety switches by putting a jumper wire in them.
geo712H Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 If I jump across the solenoid will it hurt any thing? Thanks

Thanks Not if you're in neutral and the PTO is off. <grin> But what you want to do is apply +12V to the solenoid coil (the small terminal), that's a lot less arc. If it turns over you know the starter + solenoid + battery are all good and the fault must be in the switches and/or wiring. Then troubleshoot the switches one by one. They're all in there for a reason, don't ask how I know.
