miklognasser Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 After doing a lot of research on other makes and models of garden tractors I decided that I wanted a Simplicity or AC. This site has been OUTSTANDING in the amount of information available and is better than the competition (I paid my dues online last night!). This week I purchased a 3414 S Baron Simplicity and WOW, what an animal. I tried looking up a manual on one of the links on this website for it but it says no match found. It said use the manufacturer's number but the only thing I found on the tractor was its ID number which is 9792600. Is it safe to assume that this is the MFG's number? Secondly, instead of a 14 hp Briggs it has a 16 hp Briggs in it. The serial number on it is J549844. The information that I found here and at Simple tractors show that they only came with a 14 hp Briggs. Is it safe to assume that it was re-powered at one time? It is in good shape (to me) and only needs a battery and possibly the starter/generator worked on because it cranks over very slowly. Any help with my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
wilm169 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 The manuals on this page are the same as yours, and you can down load them or print them. http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch_stp.php AND WELCOME TO THE CLUB
Steevo Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 According to simpletractors.com , they don't list a 3414S, but they do list a 3416S with mfg# 990782 (14hp) and 990872 (16hp) See this page: http://www.simpletractors.com/X-reference/s_ac_pg2.htm these numbers can be typed in here: http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch.php to download manuals.
miklognasser Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 Thanks guys! I appreciate the help. The number 3414 I got off the sticker on the back of the tractor. Maybe the rear fenders were replaced at some point, I don't know. I just know that the ID number where the shifter is was what I put in my post. If anybody has any other info on this, please let me know. Thanks again, Mike
gregc Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Mike, 979 is the last part of the MFG number. The complete MFG # is 990979. The other numbers make up the serial number. The 3414S came with a 13 hp engine. Here's a link to the Operator's and Parts Manual: http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_100_1373_00_BR_S.pdf

You will like the 3400 series Simplicities. My first Simplicity was a 3410. Still have it, it's resting in the back of the garage these days. The cats use it more than I do, they like sleeping on the seat!
skunkhome Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Mike, you are talking about my baby. Its my third and only tractor and likely my last due to the scarcity of like tractors down here. 3414S dressed as 713S I am a great proponent of that Shuttle system. Lots of folks swear at it but I swear by it. Keep it in adjustment by the manual and you will be very pleased with the performance.
miklognasser Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Thanks again guys for the help. I downloaded the manual this morning. Unfortunately, we are leaving for a week of camping at Rocky Gap state park and won't be back until Friday to play with it. At least I have the manual to read:-) Mike
