66Squire10 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Does anyone know where I can get parts for my 16.5 Onan engine and also are parts still availiable for the 4040 tractor? I just picked one up and want to re-build it. Thanks Vince
Simpleton7016 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have a complete Onan 16.5 running engine. Even better news is that I have a friend coming out to Camden NJ next week to pick up an Austin Healy....a few bucks for gas is all he will charge, but you would have to meet him in Camden.
66Squire10 Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Simpleton, Thanks for the offer, I asked you about it before, I was able to pick up a shortblock that smoked some. The engine in my tractor runs and doesn't smoke is just missing some pieces, breather, which I am able to get with this shortblock. I would like to rebuild the engine though, I mean it is 40 yrs old. My rear pto isn't working right now, may be a switch problem, want to switch the hydrulics over to a duel handle system and run the front and back independent. Just trying to get a feel out there about parts and availiablity. I'm going to go to my local Simplicity dealer friday and see what I can get still through him. Vince
wilm169 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Cummings bought ONAN out and carried most of there parts. There are still dealers out there that can get them.
66Squire10 Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 I checked with a Cummings dealer in Bristol, pa today. Faxed them my engine info and what I was looking for. I almost pasted out with the quote they sent back. I asked for price's for std and .10 over rings, pistons, rods and crank bearings. A gasket kit for the engine and a carb rebuild kit. They sent back a quote for 1700.00, this encluded 800.00 for a new crank. Don't know if it is worth rebuilding the motor, it runs good no smoke, could use some new gaskets though. Maybe I'll just run it until it blows and replace with a Honda or Briggs. What do you guys think. Vince
4xbill Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 IMHO it's not worth it. For about $1900 you can get a 24 HP Honda replacement engine from Small Engine Warehouse 24hp Honda Simplicity Power Max Allis 620 720 Onan F
