snag Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Question for the experts. Now I that I got my 212 running, (and the fact that my mtd mower is using a 1/3 quart of oil per mowing,)how good do they mow when set up properly. If they do a good job then I was going to change belts and get everthing ready on the deck and use it for mowing, and not focus on fixing the mtd thanks.
Kent Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 They'll mow your lawn better than ANY other machine except perhaps a different Simplicity-made model... Let me describe it this way. Last weekend, I mowed and bagged my whole lawn (half acre lot size) using my Snapper Hi-Vac Commercial mower, an old 21" self-propelled model, because my wife wanted the grass clippings to put around her cucumber plants in the garden. I was "too lazy" to hook my Simplicity vac and cart setup, so I just used my normal trim mower... When it was done, I was so disappointed with the look of the lawn. It just looked "mowed and ordinary" in the sense that all the grass was at the same level. In comparison, a Simplicity-mowed lawn will look "groomed" even if you don't take the time to make the infamous stripes. The deck closely follows the contours of the ground, giving it a golf-course look, and the clippings are so widely dispersed that you don't even notice them (if you mow regularly). In short, I think once you've mowed with a Simplicity deep-deck, with the full-width rollers like your B-212 has, you'll never want to mow it with anything else again...
Willy Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I have a Cub dealer across the street from me,he told me my lawn looked like it was done by a lawn care pro I smiled and said IT WAS.I think after 35 years of mowing the same lawn with one of my A/C tractors that makes both me and my tractor a pro. You'll love the job it dose.
snag Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Good to hear. I guess with my schedule I should have it ready to mow about the time the snow comes. Thanks for the input

Brent_Baumer Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I think the 42" b-series cut is better than any of the subsequent models. The top pulley on the deck is a little smaller making high blade speed than the later models. The 48" decks on the later models do not cut as well. You can improve it a lot with gator blades but there is not enough vacuum effect to lift the grass smashed by the left front tire and cut it the same as the rest of the deck. I have had this same issue with numerous 48" decks on several different tractors. Keeping the deflector on and using gator blades helps but I hate the deflector and everyone else must too because they are always missing. Back to the original question though, yes the b212 and the other b series tractors with 42" decks make a nicely cut lawn.
cojo92 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I LOVE IT PAUL!! ITS LIKE A GOLFCOURSE! WOW!:O:O:O:D:D8D8D
dentwizz Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Truly b-e-a-youtiful. I too inherrited an MTD. Body mounted decks are terrible when there are any deviations or hard turns(it leans the chassis on full steering deflection). Floating with rollers is the only way to go. My 64 9hp will run circles around the 14hp MTD any day any time even when it's thick(no mulchers on either). I keep that one for when everyone else wants to mow(rare:D) just because the steering is easier and the guards are more wife friendly.
snag Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Man does that look sweet, thats some insperation to get it going.
