Digging in to the recently aquired Broadmoor 717 today and need a little help. i don't know much about this machine as far as it's history. Original engine? Carb? What I do know is the choke cable has been unattached from the carb, there is a linkage from the throttle assembly run to the choke lever on the carb. it does run if started at full throttle. Could anyone offer a service manual page or pic of a correctly run govener set-up. Briggs # 171701 0120-01 6802160 I'll post a couple of photos of the current set-up in case they are of any help. Thanks in advance

You have a newer throttle plate and carb that lets you use the throtlle cable for chocking and throttle control. It is called "Choke-a-matic" With this arrangement, you can only start with throttle wide open. Also from the picture, you nedd a welch plug to seal off the carb from unfiltered atmoshere.

Looks like a newer motor in it with the built in choke thing. I should have the manual for that manual... If you need manuals or anything, let me know.

Thanks for the input. I have a new welsch plug but had not installed yet in cas I had to get in there to straighten out the choke situation. I guess when the choke-a matic went on the label maker was still popular!

Also the throttle works in the oposite direction now. Full throttle in the slow position. Is this normal? Thanks again.

Well I've changed all the fluids and got this one running. However to start it I have to manually pull the choke linkage while cranking it. It starts right away and I release the linkage. I assume it's missing a spring for the choke. Can I convert this choke back to manual? The cable is still in place but will removing the existing linkage mess with the govener operation?

Yes - throttle will now be backwards. Try moving the control cable to the other side of the clamp to get a better alignment and pull the cable all the way upward before tightening the clamp. This should now activate the choke.

I ran the tractor for a few minutes then it died suddenly. Gas was pouring from the carb. I assume either the float has a hole or the needle/seat is not sealing. I have pulled the carb but could use some advise before disassembly. Do I need to remove the needle valve first or can I remove the whole assembly from the bottom of the carb to remove the bowl for inspection. Thanks again,
