ZippoVarga Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Just got my new to me early B-10 up and running but the points plunger leaks oil badly. Is there an easy, yet effective fix for this? I tried looking in the tech pubs, but there was nothing on this. Other than the mini Niagara Falls, the engine runs flawlessly. Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Sean aka Zippy
RayS Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 will part 722 in the diagram fit a 23D? This is for a 10hp (243431). Briggs part number 68768 plunger seal.
GWGAllisfan Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I think that will fit a 23D as well. I seem to remember I put one of those seals on the 23D in my landlord when I put it back in service. You also need part number 724a to hold it in.
ZippoVarga Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 When I looked at my parts break down for the 23D it only showed two pieces. PN 645-Plunger Bushing and PN 342-Contact Plunger. I looked at the Plunger set up on a 16HP and it has a rubber boot over it. I was leaning towards weather it would work or not but I like the idea of using parts that are closer in age than the newer 16hp parts. Thanks guys. I'll give it a whirl and see how things go.
PGL Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 The boot parts were not in the original parts listings, but were an add on for later engines referred to in the "antique" engine repair manual for Out of Production Engines 1919-1981. There is a retainer part #221873, an eyelet part #93516 and the seal part #68768.
ZippoVarga Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 Thanks Peter....I went to my local machine shop today and the OEM parts for my old 23D are available. While I was there I went ahead and got a set of rings for another 23D that's been on the shelf for a while. When I got the piston out I was surprised to find that it was cracked at the oil scraper groove. So again I will be making a trip to the machine shop to see if they can order the piston for me as well. Other than that, the engine is in great shape. Not sure how this crack would happen, but it's there and covers about one third of the circumference of the piston. If the oil scraper ring didn't hang up in it's groove I would have never known there was a problem with it. So, the saga continues. Two 23D engines, two different issues and one forlorn B-10 patiently awaiting the first completed engine. Thanks again for the help guys.
ZippoVarga Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 Both engines are up and running. Thanks for all the support guys!!
