Safety interlock bypass (non-Simp/AC)UPDATE

Hi..I really need to bypass the safety interlocks on my early 80s Agway (Murray). I have been having ongoing issues with this and it's finally at the point where starting it is a major hassle. Anyway, the small wire on the solenoid is incorporated into the safety interlocks. From the solenoid, the wire goes under the chassis to two interlocks then back up to the ignition switch. Could I just bypass the interlocks and run a wire from the solenoid directly to the ignition switch? I do not have a manual or wiring diagram and obviously Murray does not make them available. Any help would be appreciated.

You sure can. That is what I have done on my 917H and 7116H.

Thanks Ray. I thought so, since the circuit needs continuity to allow it to fire, but as often is the case, I tend to overlook thingssm00

Well, I snipped the interlock wires and spliced them and hooked everything up to the brand-spankin'-new solenoid. Turn the key...nothing. Recheck the new connections and routing and everything seems ok. Solenoid clicks when the key goes to 'start'. Check it w/ 12v. hotwire to be sure. Get out the meter. Everything fine on the battery side of the solenoid, no current to starter. No current at post on solenoid. Take out the new, out-of-the-box, $15 solenoid and put a spare one in I had lying around. Fires right up. So there you have it. A perfect example of how a new part can be defective and cause you to think it's something else. It paid for me to go through it with the meter again before jumping to conclusions and buying a new ignition switch, which was my next thought, or a new starter. I did get hosed on the new solenoid since it's electrical and non-returnable, of course.:(!. Damn Chinese junk...8C

On mine I ran a wire from the key switch to the small terminal on the solenoid. I eliminated the wires going to the safety switches.

that's what I would do but the wiring harness is still good so I just crimped a butt connector to join the wires. I know I know, I should solder...do ray per your post. Worked fine, except for the defective solenoid.
