Chris727 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Hi, after finding out the speedi-sleeves to repair my worn axle tube cost $26 ea. plus tax and freight I decided to replace the tube with a good used one in a spare rearend. I've never split open one of these things, its a variable on a B-212. Is there anything I should look for or any disassembly tips? Can I take the tube out and leave the other gears and shafts in place somehow, only lifting one side of the case? Thanks in advance. Chris
GregB Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 There have been postings on spliting the trans. The ones that pop into my fuzzy brain are from Marty (MPH) and KIrk (thedaddycat). Try to search using the posts by and also make sure to check search archives. GregB
MPH Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Best tip I have is too lay it into a milk crate, case side down, then when you pull the lid everything stays in place. Remember to drive the two roll pins clear of the lid before you remove it. Without being in one can't say for sure if you can pull the axle tube without removing other gears or not. Don't think I have tried as I figure if I'm that deep into it may as well clean everything good and look for wear.

Neilo Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 To get the axle tube out, you will need to lift out a few gears. This is easy if you lay it on its side as MPH has said. The only difficult part I came across getting the axle tube out was getting the clip ring off it, next to the axle tube spacer (inside the transmission). Proper circlip pliers should make this ok. Chris727 Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 Thanks for the tip and old posts, I took apart the "parts" tranny and it went real easy. When I take apart the good one I'll use the milk crate.
