There is a 9020 for sale near me: http://roanoke.craigslist.org/grd/779479842.html Are these good reliable tractors. I am a little afraid of one this old for this price. Do they have power steering? If not how hard is the steering while using the front blade? Sure could use the sickle mower on my bank. What do you think of the price?

I am not an owner nor have I ever had a powermax, but I have some attachments I have been shopping. If the tractor and all implements are fully operational, then that price seems better than fair and a bit under market in my opinion. Having said that, there are a LOT of members who are much more qualifies than I to make a better determination.

price is about right for tractor and deck in my area, looks like a lot of stuff with it and well cared for. some say parts are harder to come by but I have not had a problem finding what I need. they did not have power steering but mine steer easy except when the snow thrower is on. they are heavy well built tractors and a 72 model year would be a 4041 and a 9020 would be about 74 to 76. if I was closer I would have it home by now.

A tractor in decent shape with a deck will bring this price on average. Add the cycle and front blade and front bumper this is a good deal even if there are a few issues. Power steering is no problem if your not afraid to do a little fabrication.

If I look at this tractor what should I look for?

Rust inside the torque tube, not probable but... It may or may not have the rear pto. You'll have to pull the cooler over to see if it has this. If it does it's worth another 450.00 Slop in the front axle pivot bolts are common and repairable. The engine smoking a little is a common thing if not excessive. If you do have to do a rebuild it will cost you plenty of bucks, 750.00 0r so. You have the option of a re-power but a 20hp CCKB engine in good shape will do you a good job. Just look at the overall condition for how well it may have been maintained.

The owner already fixed several normal problems with this tractor when he rebuilt the carb and put in an electric fuel pump. Looks like a good deal.

How about switching attachments? Hard or easy? Are these highly sought after tractors?

attachments for front and center mount to a mule drive that mounts with clevis pins the attachments then mount to the drive with clevis pins and deck is a drive over type. the center attachments can be lifted with the lift cables making they easier to line up. rear attachments are 3 point so I would say they are easy. you can download the manual here.:D

If it is what the ad says it’s a greatdOd deal! Don’t think about it too long or it’ll be gone.

This is a pretty decent tractor for age. I have the older 1973 4041 version and it has been a great tractor. The cckb engine is decent for this machine and most of the parts can be had for a reasonable price. The parts are no more expensive than say getting John Deere parts. I have the version without the rear pto. You can tell if it has the rear pto by first looking at the dash and looking for 2 switches for the pto and there is a hump in the area in front of the seat. Also, look at the rear of the tractor. You will see the rear opening where the drive shaft will hook up. Be aware though that many of the older tractors have had the rear pto electric clutches removed to be used on the front of the engine to be used to drive the mower deck. Good luck with the tractor and if you have any other questions you can contact me at dana.belcher@yahoo.com. Have a nice day!
