Guest Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Is this: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=73051 The right wiring diagram for for a simplicity 725 w/ a briggs motor? And what battery should I get for this thing? Can I grab it at walmart? Any clue where I can get a replacement grill and headlight lenses? I think thats it for now...
RayS Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 The correct battery is a 22NF. I also use 51R batteries from walmart. Here is a link to aparts manual. http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_100_1231_00_LL_S.pdf
midnightpumpkin Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 The wiring of the 725 is similar to the diagram you reference, except the 725 does not have a solenoid. The solenoid function is performed by a mechanical switch on the dash that connects the battery to the SG armature when the switch is pushed in. The switch looks much like an automotive dimmer switch. John U
Roy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 "The correct battery is a 22NF." Not to cause trouble but think a B-1, 700, & 725 will only take a Lawn and Garden Tractor (LGT) battery with the flat terminals like a marine battery. There isn't enough room in the battery box for a larger battery. You can get a LGT battery at Wal-Mart or any automotive parts store.

The terminals on this tractor for battery connection on the tractor are not original. They look like the ones for a regular car battery, big.
ReedS Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 The original batteries were of the automotive style as that's all they had at the time, therefor the the large battery terminals. I believe that Roy is correct that the 22f battery is too large for this tractor although I've never verified this fact with any of the early tractors that I've had nor have I researched batteries for a close approximation of size to the original batteries. Most of mine were of the manual start variety.sm02
RayS Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 The battery part number for a 725 is 122001. The landlords used a battery part number 122190. My mistake it may not fit. Measure your battery box to see what will fit. I have never had any look with the small batteries that fit in the MTD`s and Craftsman tractors lasting very long. Never see a smaller car battery than the dimensions of a 22NF or a 51R.

The tractor I am getting has the lights in the grill. One lense is broken. I want to pull both lights out and do a solid grill and put the lights on the side or one on top like the older 725's. Would that be possible or do I have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding a solid grill?
HubbardRA Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I found some expanded metal similar to the original grille, except it was steel instead of aluminum. I made a new grille from that for my 700. In fact I replaced the grille twice in the twenty years that I have had the tractor.
