Points vs. Electronic Ignition

Just wondering what everyone prefers. Is it possible to convert the Briggs 23D in my B-10 to electronic ignition or is it better to stay with the points system. In my previous post I got a bit confused as one poster believed no because the armature is 3 legged and they are set up for two, while another poster stated he used a Universal Electronic Ignition Module, but he was kind enough to tell me that his model engine was not a 23D. So I am back to the beginning. If I could not get a conversion and need a new armature what would be the replacement model/# or if I can what would be the electronic ignition I would need. Thanks everyone for bearing with me, J-P

The armature is still available with the original part number, or at least it is around here. I looked recently and it was 70 bucks at the one place(kinda pricey source, not the only one) but it was very much available. I used to work for an aircraft inspector/mechanic who believed in points so much he converted his Ford truck to points FROM an electronic system. Said it was more reliable and cheaper to maintain. I don't know if I would do it myself, but he wasn't clueless either. Is your armature not functional?

the engine that starts real easy have points . that is if they are set right .electronic ignition seems like they have to spin faster to start.

Here is a Nova II electoronic ignition. I have used this same unit on my HB 212 for the past 7 or 8 years with no problems. Starts right up and I would never buy points again after using these units. I have notice when I had a starter generator that was going bad it took a little longer to start but once I replaced the starter gen. It spins faster and starts right up. http://cgi.ebay.com/Nova-II-Electronic-Ignition-Module-Chainsaws-Trimmers_W0QQitemZ380030127530QQihZ025QQcategoryZ85915QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 I believe that the correct armature for your engine is 296834. There is one on ebay as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/Briggs-and-Stratton-Part-296834-Armature-Assembly_W0QQitemZ230235866264QQihZ013QQcategoryZ82248QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Ray, Thanks for the heads up on the armature, I went ahead and got it, along with new points and condenser. I am just going to stay with the original points system since it is already set up that way.
