lots of sanding, degreasing, pit filling, checking parts for ware, painting, and more sanding.

How far do you want to go? Some folx take it down to the bare frame, cleaning every nut and bolt, rebuilding everything, before reassembly. Others just do cosmetic restorations, sand, paint and refurbish the outsides.

Check for cracks before painting. The seat deck pan is prone to cracks which lead to spreading the seat deck eventually leading to cracking the neutral switch. I actually got one Landlord that way. Fixed the deck, then the switch was fine. All it took was angle iron strung across the bottom neatly and it formed a tension structure. I'll send pix if you want.

I basiclly just want to remove the engine and take apart the frame and restore the frame. I want it to look good enough to take to shows. The engine was just rebuilt about 12 years ago, but the pait job is origanal. I cant find the right color paint though. Any suggestions.

What I did for mine is I took a painted peice to Tru-Value and had them color match X-O Rust (their rustoleum) to it in a gallon. 27 bucks. Tractor supply sells a hardener made by Valspar($8) to go with oil-base paint. Follow instructions to the letter(hardener lists times, portioning is not so critical) and it comes out good. Thats if you have access to a spraying setup(much better in the long run). The funny thing is I thought Powder orange would be neat(brighter) but when I had it matched it came a shade darker(note that) and it landed on the exact shade that the older tractors in fact are, not Deep orange. The white is not pure white(perhaps noted) I found Tru-Value's spray can paint in the "Heirloom White" to be a good match.

Not familiar with the 3112V but if similiar to 7116H then would suggest you at least remove the steering wheel and dash tower. I have done that and there is a lot of rust and stuff inside. Simplicity metal is fine but the original paint job leaves a bit to be desired. From there is is wire brush on angle grinder and hand sanding. Also I pulled the trim of the seat to find the seat base had suffered a fair bit as rain water sits in the base.Wire brush , anti rust, perhaps some resin. I also welded a couple of straps underneath for reinforcing. Have not re-trimmed yet - trying to think how to do that without too much stitching as the rain goes thru the stitching. Jeff

Hi Codi, I see you are a young man. A number of young men have been very successful at restoring tractors at the club in recent times. A 3112V is a real nice large frame Simplicity FDT tractor. Large frame tractors here come basically in two categories. Tractors with running boards, made roughly after 1970-71 are called Running Board Tractors or RBT tractors for short. Tractors made without running boards are called Foot Dragger Tractors or FDT tractors for short. A 3112V is roughly a 1968-69 FDT tractor. It is a very much sought after tractor and most importantly, it is not a ride on lawn mower, it is a tractor. It has a large number of implements available and is a very capable garden tractor. If you want to work on your 3112V and have the means I would suggest you invest the ten dollars to join the club so you can post pictures and see what some of the other young men of the club have accomplished with their tractors. If your 3112V is a running tractor you are very fortunate in owning such a tractor. It is a very good one.
