Guest Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 OK I got around to really testing my generator. I am only getting 850mv out of terminal A to ground. Even if I ground terminal F. So this means she is shot and I have to pony up $100 for a new one? :(
ReedS Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 It may be a matter of brush replacement or even just freeing up a stuck brush. Check continuety between the terminals and the brushes, there may be a broken wire between the terminal and a brush. I've only had one bad generator and I think that it had overheated due to a shorted battery.

I so dd not want to have to take this thing apart :( Is there anything special I have to do to remove the belt?
Guest Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Do I have to take the belt off before taking the back of the generator out to blow it off and see if anything is stuck?
olcowhand Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 My lincoln welder/generator did the same thing. The slip-ring under one of the brushes needed cleaning up. I cleaned both slip-rings & she went right back to welding.
