laytonlight Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 The part in blue in the photo, the manual describes it as a thrust washer. Is this still available from Simplicity? Does anyone know the thickness it is supposed to be? Mine is fairly thin, almost paper thin. On a Landlord 2010. Thanks.
RayS Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 They are still available or at least they were a year ago.
briggsetc Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I would like to know what that assembleys purpose in life is. It really mystified me when I was putting my 64 Landlord together. It looked like some kind of overload protection to me ?? Designed to slip ?? The outer pulley is the "emergency" rope pulley. That washer is very thin on mine and looks like it is not worn. Gary
firefoxz1 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I believe these were designed as a slow grap clutch, to keep the belt from grapping fast quickly when the clutch was released quickly, to keep the nose planted on the ground:D.
Kent Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 As stated, it lets you "slip the clutch" a little when you're letting out on the pedal. It prevents the belt from grabbing and jerking hard and perhaps lifting the front of the tractor off the ground. They make a noticeable difference in how smooth the clutch operates.
briggsetc Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Well .... the more I learn about Simplicity the more I am impressed with the design. Gary
dentwizz Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Simplicity is in fact elegant and not as simple as meets the eye. ^
laytonlight Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 That really is an amazing design. I took it apart and took some photos to send to a friend of mine that sells belts, bearings and pulleys to see if he's ever seen or sold ones like it. It does make a difference. When I took the one off of the new 2010 to put on the Mutt and get me through the summer, it does clutch better, although 2nd gear is still a little strong. Should that be lubricated at all inside there?
Chris727 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 The blue part is a strip bearing, rather than a thrust washer. Here are some of the parts. The metal washer above the two packages is also described as a thrust washer, they don't usually wear much. The above item (#2157033) is the same as your blue one in the picture, the package describes it as "BEARING-STRIP 0.43WD X 8.000LG X0. You just wrap it around the inner pulley 1/2. It is about 1/16" thick. The above pic shows the thrust washer which most commonly needs replacing. It is described as WASHER-THRUST 2.410 ID DX3.7500DX.030TH NYL960172. It also looks to be about 1/16th" or slightly less.
laytonlight Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 Thanks Chris, now I know what to order. Also, it clears up some confusion, I didnt know that there was the nylon "washer" in addition to the bearing strip.
