Walking tractor question

For those "in the know:" I own a '63 Simplicity Model W, and recently bought a sickle bar from a fellow member here. The sickle bar appears to be quite a bit older than my tractor, and doesn't have some of the same things as the one shown in the manual I printed from Simplicity's website. It has no idler pulley at all, nor does it appear to have provisions for one. Is it engaged just by having the whole crank assembly drop? Should I just get a short belt or try and mix and match newer parts (if I can find them). If you think you can help, and this is too vague, contact me and I'll give you better specifics.

I don't have picture of it handy, (or remember which it is) but one of my old walkers has a second idler like the one for the drive belt that is for accesories. I am guessing that is what that mower was designed for.;) I could take a pic of the setup if needed.

Thanks, but I got it working today. With the old setup, there is no idler pulley - everything relies upon a longer belt and control rod tension, which is not rigid. At all. The thing shakes like you wouldn't believe, but it works!

Pictures of this mower would be nice. Have one I picked up at an auction for 5 bucks, just because it was there and so was I.:D No clue what it is for.

Ok I'll get you pictures in a few days.

Remember to keep the rpm's slow for the sickle mower. From what I have heard the ones for the walk-behinds leave a little to be desired as far as staying in one piece.;)
