SmilinSam Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Aquired a 48" deck from my kid when he blew up his well worn 7116, so I decided to hang it under my DA 917 ( which usually only does snow, blade and tilling work) and went out to mow grass tonight. Was having a good time in the back yard mowing when the tractor kind of jerked a little two or three times as I was moving along.? Got off and looked around but found nothing. Continued mowing Did it again a little while later. Looked around again and found nothing again. Just about 2 minutes to being done mowing and it did it again, only this time the tractor quit moving. Thought, uhhh, this isnt good.OO Shut her down and opened up the seat deck and saw the idler arm for the hydro belt sticking out at a 90 degree angle almost touching the tire.sm008 "Well this is neat, never seen this before"XX( Turns out one of the wheel weight bolts came loose and slid back towrds the tranny and was catching the idler arm every time the wheel would turn around when it was sticking out far enough. Ruined the idler arm and bent up the brake rod too. Luckily I have replacement parts stashed back. It pays not to sell everything;) Havnt mowed with a Soveriegn type for about 4 years, works the arms alot more than the ConQuests or comparable Wheel Horse 260 series tractors. Still I cant wait to get it fixed to mow with again next week:D
goatfarmer Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Sounds like parting out all those tractors over the years worked out, in saving the right parts.
Simpleton7016 Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 quote:"Well this is neat, never seen this before" I think that this is a clear sign that someone has spent too much time around tractors. Think about it....you experience a catostrophic failure that prevents you from completing the task at hand....and you think it is 'neat' because it is something new? :D Not me my friend. Regardless of the neatness of the problem, I would have switched from "SmilinSam" to "F-Bomb Droppin Sam" in about 2.2 milliseconds. yell
Mike Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 There's nothing better than having spare parts.....or spare tractors

But when there are 2-5 running tractors laying around at any given time , ya just go get another one out and finsih mowing . Then just tow the dead one back8D I got the 917 going again tonight. Heh, after I pulled the weight and the wheel off , I managaged to do a pretty goood job of straigthtening the arm out without taking it off the tractor. Mowing with this reminds me how nice the power steering was on the massey 2818. Might have to go shopping fro some late model dead Soveriegns8)
