dentwizz Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I am trying to redo the steering on my 9hp LL and ran into an interesting issue. The model is 990314 but the master manual shows the steering pinion/bearing assembly as being the earlier type off 990270 and older. I need to replace the bushings for the steering shaft and the gear that goes to the drag link, but the bearings are listed as $45 per and NLA. Has anyone run into the scenario before? Mods or tips? Also, I have been thinking about putting a cartridge bearing in the steering column, inside the upper part of the tube(the rubber bushing up there is just so sloppy). Thoughts, comments?
MrSteele Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 IS the old bearing a needle or a ball bearing? Either way, a good industrial supply can usually find a bearing that will work. The needle in my Landlord is from (slow)Motion Industries. It is a bit longer than the original, which is better than original due to the additional bearing surface, and cost me about $6 a couple of years ago. All you need to order a bearing is ID, OD, and length. Bushings can be ordered the same way, or, made to fit.
