Hi...I tried PM-ing Al with this question, but I must have something blocking my PMs or something. The question is about a Briggs 23FB on my '59 Economy. To my knowledge, this was never used on any Simplicities, so I'm hoping some small engine mechanics might have some advice. This engine has a separate coil and armature, where the armature is slipped through a hollow coil. I looked for an IPA to post but came up empty, so I hope the above description is okay. The problem is that it is too snug--It won't slip through. I'm at the point that if I use any more pressure I'm either going to distort the armature and/or coil. I'm hesitant about removing some of the plastic on the inside of the coil since it's probably there for insulation. Could I try grease? Would that have any effect on conductivity? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. edit: It just occurred to me I can take a photo of the arm.+coil I have and post it. Will do that tomorrow.

I don't have any suggestions for getting the new coil over the core, but here's the link to the manual for the engine: http://www.briggsandstratton.com/pdf/owners_manual/100/Model%2023-Domestic.pdf

I had no idea. Did he make a post? I haven't been in the coffee shop/BRL area in forever though ..that's terrible.

Thanks greg! I tried to find it on the briggs site too but I got "nothing found." I did get the 23D manual there, so I don't know what I did wrong. Anyway, if anyone's curious as to this setup, click the link greg provided and scroll down to page 22 of the manual. My Acrobat page is 26, but you might have your program set up differently. The coil is part #290880 and the armature is that bar labeled part #290614. Once the bar is slipped through, it clips onto the part labeled 'Armature and support, part #290621. That bar is what I can't squeeze through the coil! ngr2ngr2

You could try putting the bar in the freezer overnight. It might contract enough to enable the coil to slide over it.
