At first glance I'd say it's a repainted (restored - quite nicely, I might add) 1972 Simplicity 4040. It definitely has the 4040 hood (different decal) and if it has the top mounted air cleaner with down draft carb, then it is a 16.5 hp CCKA. The CCKB's are generally 2420's, 2440's and 2733's and had the side draft carbs. The other thing is the serial number that you posted - that is the Onan engine serial number. #0971...indicates that the engine was made in September of 1971, which would have been used in a 1972 4040 tractor. The only questionable thing is the key switch in the center console. This was done on the 4041 and 9020. The 4040 and AC 616 had the key switch in the dash. It's quite possible that what you have is a the result of a couple tractors pieced together to make one good tractor. I'd say the center console and dash are from a later model (4041 or 9020) tractor. The Simplicity ID Tag located on the right side of the frame tunnel will read 705...if it is a 4040. 954...is the 4041 designation. The tractor and deck looks great - although I'd recommend hooking up the lift cables and mule to be able to raise and lower the deck. ;o) Jeff

the pic is simplicity '73? 4041 power max?, anyhow it has a sn:0971328648 originaly it was identified as a 9020, but I think it is a 4041. The engine is a CCKB MS/2026G so I believe it's the 19.5HP. I noticed the 9020's had the air intake on the side, while this one has it top mounted. Anyhow the more info I can get the better. Thanks. Thanks to Kent I think all should see the pic. I agree with Jeff on the hood. It is a 4040 hood because it has the opening for the downdraft carb. That carb however probably fits a 19.5 HP CCKB because they have the same block. I have that same decal on one of my 9020's, only because I purchased it from my implement dealer. It is Simplicity's replacement for all the powermax decals (Generic to cover all models). The fenders are either 4040 or 4041. They have the angled section before the flat area on top. Both of my 9020's have fenders that have only two "planes". They have the flat vertical area and about a 7" wide flat area on top. The front steering gear is the earlier style found on 4040, 4041 & early model 9020's. The late model 9020's had a much heavier cast iron link at the top of the wheel pivot. In general, parts can be swapped on any of these three models as well as with the AC 616, 620 & 720 tractors. The main distinguishing factor (I think)between the 4040 and 4041 along with the AC616/620 is the Simpilcity 4040 and the AC 616 did not have an hour meter on the dash. Hope that helps. It looks like a nice machine regardless. Have some fun with it! It will do what you want to do and much much more! Powermax_Paul

this is the consel area, not sure about the hour meter, maybe someone can tell me if thats the original make.... It works, but it's only showing 264 hours......I was told that it's correct and that the tractor had been in storage of 9 years...... http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1640122&a=12548369&p=46704891
