Replacement for Sovereign?

Has anyone heard whether or not Simplicity plans on making a replacement for the Sovereign? It seems to me that there's a big void in their line-up with it no longer there. Even though the "Legacy" is in all likelihood an excellent tractor....it's a little too rich (or too much tractor) for many of us. On the other hand, the Landlord seems a little lite for serious tiller duty (at least that's my opinion). Maybe I'm dreaming....at any rate, I am curious. GordU

Hi, The price on the 20-48 Legacy was cut this year to help fill the void. The increasing sales of the Legacy and the Landlord and the declining sales of the Sovereign spelled its doom. From my conversations with the company, there is nothing planned to replace it. It was killed several years ago when the Landlord came out. Dealers asked for it back and the company responded, to the tune of, as long as you buy them in sufficient numbers to justify it we will build it. The numbers just weren't there the last couple of years. There are a lot of costs to support a model and have it be cost effective. If the volume isn't there then all of the costs on individual pieces rises and it isn't profitable, or the price has to take a jump. When the Landlord came out, we used to sell about 4 Sovereigns a year. The last 2 years we sold 2 in 2 years, while our Landlord sales went up significantly. Good luck, Al

There is not enough need today for a trac that does everything. All most people want now is a mower//-wagon tower.Who has a garden today??,,Not many,,[except maybe many here!]Sadly the Sov. was past it's prime,,,

Personally, I think the legacy should fill the Sovereign void, and Simplicity should consider making something heavier duty. Some of what Simplicity is offering for attachments for the Legacy are more suited to a lightweight compact rather than a heavy L&G tractor. The (mid 70's) Powermax series was a great tractor, but too pricey for most estates in its day. Now, however, is the time that a tractor of that size/weight/power ratio would sell. I'm seeing too many owners buying those orange and green diesels because Port Washington isn't making something heavy duty enough. Powermax_Paul
