Hi guys. I'm new on here and have two 716H's that are going to be restored and used. I've seen on e-bay and places that some folks are using a larger ATV tire on the rear of their 700 series tractors for better traction and for snow plowing. Whats the Pros n' con's on these? Also, I was looking at a set of 26x12x12 Carlise turf tires. Will these fit okay, and on the stock wheel? These 700 series tractors look great with some big sneakers on the back. They have "attitude" written all over them.. Thanks for the imput! SteveinNJ

Only thing I've read is that ATV tires are mostly 2-ply and can't take the load that a 4-ply tractor tire can take.

they make 4 and 6 ply in a atv at twice the price but in order to utilize the tread design you will need wheel speed to clean the tread out. I have also wanted to do the same but just have not needed to do so. but if it looks cool to you put it on your tractor go for it. I like to get my tires at www.cedarrapidstire.com they have pitchers that you can look at and you can look by size then choose witch tire best suites your tractor and function. I would look in to the bar lug type of tire they have our tractors in mind. 2-12 ply I have used 2 ply in the past and they don't stay beaded and leak. so you will have to run a tube. the best of luck to you. by the way look in to a larger rim when you decide on using a larger tire cause it will hump up in the middle and not work as well. remember when plowing and pushing snow if your tractor is wider then what your plow is moving, you might, will get stuck, and or run over what you did not get the first time. I like to use a skid loader tire with chains 23-8.50-12 there 6 ply don't think I will ever use them up in my life time. I see now they have skid loader tires in sizes: for the 6-12 = 5.70-12 4 in the size of 23-8.50-12 1 in the size of 26-12-12

The carlisle 26x12x12 will interfer with your cone clutch on th 716. They will not lie flat in the stock rims and with wider rims you will need a large offset to clear the cone clutch. You will need no more than a 2" (maybe a 3" but for sure a 4" will not work) inside offset (all the offset to the outside) to clear the cone clutch.

Thanks guys for the info! Especially Mike S. for the info on the wheel/tire combo. I guess I'll stay with the stock size out back. Don't want to run into any problems. Steve

10.5" is good for mowing, but the 8.5" seems to grip better in the snow. Carlisle All-Terrain ATV tires seemed pretty capable(though I have not the budget to get them on mine yet).sm00

This first set are Nankang 23x10.5s that are on my 61 Wards. These are mounted on 10.5 wide rims that I widened myself. These tires work with all attachments.

This next set are 26x12x12 Dico tires mounted on 12 inch wide wheels and on my AC713S. These tires work with a 48 inch mower.

The next set are ATV tires mounted on 8 inch wide wheels and on my AC 716H. These ATV tires fit with a 36 inch blade and work with the moldboard plow.

And finally a set of 26x12x12 Carlisle SuperLugs that were cut for pulling, mounted on 11 5/8 wide wheels that I widened. These are on my 716H also. These tires work with a 48 inch mower. I hope these pictures help.

Rod, Thank You for the great pics! I guess the trick for larger rear skins is a wider wheel. The look that I was looking for is the look your 713S has. I have a 48" mower on both of my 716H's. Are all these rims widened by yourself, or can I purchase a set of those 12" rims from someone? Mike mentioned about the cone clutch. Obviously, the setups you have do not interfere with the cone clutch? I would imagine because of the offset? That 716H of yours set up for pullin' is slicker than goose poop! Again, Thank You for the pics! Steve

I widened the wheels for the 23x10.5 AGs and the 26x12 AGs. The wheels that the turf are mounted on were widened by someone else. They sell the wide wheels in aluminum for tractor pulling, but they are expensive and I am not sure about the offset. If you widen some wheels, leave the back side the same and do the widening on the outside. That way it does not interfere with the workings of the belts, clutch or tranny in any way. I don't know where you can buy a wide set in steel with the correct backspacing.

I'm running a set of ATV 12X9.50X12 on the rear of a Sunstar and have really overloaded the tractor with a couple of heavy wood trailers the last year or so and the tires are great and will out pull my tractor tread type tires

the aluminum rims have a 6x6 or a 4x8 offset 12x12 = $235.00 + tires = $665.00 non hardened - $740.00 harden just looked in the midwestsupercub book and the offset you would want is a 4x8. to much if $ if you ask me, but they shine reilly nice. you could take your rims down to a machine or ag shop and they can cut and re weld it up for you then you will not have a wheel that wobbles. there are blanks you can buy already you just cut and weld in to place. thats what I have done in the past is to take it to a machine shop and when I was out of there I was out $60.00 and very happy with the work I would look there first. good luck

Also New Holland used a wide 12" rim on some of their haybines these can be had pretty cheap from parts yards.Just take their 6 lug center out and put your 5 lug center in.

Nate, I was thinking bout' goin' that way with having the stock ones widened possibly, or I was also looking at a golf cart turf tire that is a 25x10.50-12. Was wondering if I could mount those on the stock wheels but because of the taller tire, might interfere with the seat deck. Do you know an outfit that carries the blanks you mentioned? Being I'm new to these smaller machines, I'm clueless on where to go for vendors.. Thanks everyone for all the help! Still like the look of Rons 713S though... lol! Steve

Hey Steve! Raised in NJ on the Philly side. I have a number of different set ups on my tractors but the tire combination I like the most that you can mount to your stock rims are these Carlisle 23x10.5x12 Tru Powers. I have the Power Tracs in the same dimensions but they don't "bite" nearly as well as these new tires do. I'm sold on them. If they do rub, you can get one inch, one and a half inch or two inch automotive spacers with the correct bolt pattern for around 50 bucks to get the wheel and tires away from the cone clutch. Here is a picture of my 61 Squire with the Tru Powers and my Ugly-Alice with the Power Tracs mounted and the Tru Powers sitting beside them. Both will allow me to run my 42 inch decks with no issues.

try your local TSC or any implement dealer they can get you replacement rims. as far as the rim extension hoop, I will have to look that back up. my first try at it, I went to a steel place and had them cut and role it for me. then I took home and wielded them up. it hard to cut them out and maintain the shape and a smooth cut free hand. so the easy way is to take to a wielding shop. your rims will take a 23-9.50-12 and still hold there shape and give plenty of traction when you play in the snow.

Zip, That tractor looks all business buddy! I was just looking at those Tru Powers the other night on the internet. They look like one heck of an aggresive tire. Should do an excellent job in the snow uh? I found a guy that sells an 8.5 wide wheel and says it works with the popular 23x10.50-12, 24x12-12, & 26x12x12 tires. Far cry in width from a 12" wide tire that Rob sports on his machine with the 26x12-12's... Steve

Sorry, meant to say "far cry in width from the 12" wide WHEEL that Rob sports on his machine with the 26x12-12's. Steve

I was just wondering, has anyone tried mounting a 8.5" tire on an 8.5" wide wheel? I like the looks of the 10.5" and 12" wide tires, but the 8.5" fit in the furrow when using a rear plow. I would like to see how flat the tires would sit if matched to an 8.5" wheel.

they make all sizes of bar lug tires www.cedarrapidstire.com you can look at all the sizes and pitchers you want. all the larger tire you would want to put on a 8.50 rim is a 9.50 and not loose the traction benefit or warp your tire. don't get me wrong you could get a 26-12-12 on that 8.50 "seen it" but you bubble the tire to much...
