Simplicity85 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Hey Guys How do you over haul a engine? I got a 18 B&S like to make it a 20HP? Thanks
Chris727 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 A true overhaul is not intended to increase HP. It is intended restore an engine to proper opearting specs, resizing the cylinder, new piston rings etc. Boring all the way out to .030 does not necessarily increase your HP much if any. For an 18hp briggs there is no kit or parts for increasing HP. If you want more power some of the pulling tractor guys mill and port the cylinder heads, for the K-Series kohlers there are many performance parts available, even special performance engine blocks. some guys have them dyno-tested and are getting 40+ hp but they have put $1000's into the engine and it is not designed for use cutting grass or idling around. Many of the Kohler performance parts can be seen here: www.midwestsupercub.net
firefoxz1 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 For the most part you will not even see a difference in performance from 18 to 20 HP. If the engine is worn you will see a difference in just a plain rebuilt back to spec.
