Hello and nice to see this forum. My hubby just bought a small tractor and we are not really sure what it is, he says he is certain it is Simplicity Sunstar and it has 20hp motor but thats all we know, we cant find its number on the thing as it should. I write here instead of him because we are Icelandic and my English is better then his I have taken allot of pictures in the hopes that somone knows this tractor. I can post the links to it if there is someone willing to see. Hubby said he has never seen one like it here in Iceland and it is wrongly named? please if anyone can help us we will be very happy. kind Regards, Kolbrún, Iceland ps. this is a restoration project but we will be using the machine allot if we can find all the right parts

Welcome to the best Simplicity site on the net! The Sunstar is a great tractor to restore and use with the 20hp engine, power steering, and all its other features! Sorry, but you cannot post pics or get in some other areas of the site unless you are a member. For $10 a year you can post pics and gain access to all areas of this site and is well worth the money for the vast knowledge and information this club has to offer. With that said here are a couple of pics of some Sunstars that should be similar to yours.

Welcome fellow north landers^, at least I think Iceland is about as far north as Alaska. Haven't been around any Sunstars yet, but being a 20hp Engine makes that a good possiblity what you have found. Several guys here love them dearly so should be able to give you better advice then I can. If you spend 10 bucks to become a member you can post pics right on the site, and we love pics. Would love to see some in the coffee shop of your country and the large hot spings over there I've heard of.

thank you so much. would it be ok to post a link here to a picture of the disassembled traktor? this looks a bit like ours but the engine housing is different. we think it is the wrong one.. and it is old. I might be able to spend 10 dollars tomorow, we will have too see first what we get payed ;) And yes Iceland is high up north and i used to live very close to the arctic circle. I have allot of photos from travels in Iceland on my flickr gallery under kollaosk, but the traktor pictures are on my Icelandic blog.

Welcome, When I bought my tractor, I also did not know what I had. No identification at all. It makes it difficult to get started. If you think it is old and might not be a Simplicity, you could try posting a photo on this forum below. It is not very active compared with this, but I got the advice I needed to identify my Landlord. http://www.tractorbox.co.uk/forum/default.asp Neilo

Definitely a Sunstar (20hp). If you could get the Mfg number from the sticker on the frame above the left front wheel, we could identify it better (and it is needed to get you the correct parts and operators manuals) although we can probably figure it out from the type of engine in your Sunstar. This thread gives links for the Sunstar service manual: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=100857&SearchTerms=sunstar%2Cservice

ICE, I'm new here also so let me tell you that you have made the right connection. You won't find a better bunch of people to help you. I just wish my B-1 looked as good as your tractor did BEFORE you started restoration and I wouldn't have bothered changing anything. Good luck and have fun. larry in Ohio

"Edit. Sorry, Non paying users are not allowed to post pictures or links to personel pictures. Also Paying Members are not allowed to post pictures for non paying users." I understand that "rules are rules" but would think that in some cases a one time exception could be made. Guess I am wrong again. :(

Welcome Kolbrun: I was in your country quite a few years ago and if the name Bobby Fisher rings a bell that's when I was there. It is a beautiful land but as recall not very much grass for a machine like this one. I see you are from Selfoss and if that is near gulfoss the big waterfall then I have an idea where you live and envy your location it is very beautiful country. Again welcome to the group and I am sure you will find any information and help on your tractor because the knowledge base on Simplicity here is outstanding. Nice to have you here and welcome to the group. I hope you can post some pictures, I think all of us would enjoy them.

thank you all so much, and Roy thank you triply, and you dont even see half of the garage, or the big shed. witch is twice the size of the garage and is houses a 50´ties Harley, motorhome, Chrysler imperial, snowmobile from the eighties and a overlander that is older then my dad. The sticker that has the number thingy is nowhere on the machine, that is why my hubby was in trouble. but with my help with translating and doing google-work he wount an oil filter to use. thankfully he also has freinds brother and father who own a garage near here and they like to tinker in old stuff and know allot of things about rare items. ;) mostly these are inheritances from my father in law who ran a garage in his day and did wonderful restorations, he also made the copper polles that help the red velvet barriers when usa president Reagan and the russian leader Gorbatsjov met in Iceland in 1986. I dont live in the town Selfoss but half an house drive from it, but our post goes through Selfoss sinse this is a small country and my village only has 50 people. I am sorry I broke the rules. I though it was not allowed to uplead pictures from computer to this forum unless to pay but thought a link to my blog was ok. I sometimes misunderstand english. And if I did not have a good program to respell my words most of my english would be very bad. lol

Most likely Mfg # 1691020 will be close. If you go to this URL on the Simplicity web site and enter the above number, you will be able to download an operator manual and parts book. http://www.simplicitymfg.com/manuals/index.cfm?rd=1

I don't know the number right off the top of my head but I use the same oil filter on my 20 horse Kohlers that I use on my 82 Ford Escort. It's a little longer, but that just means it carries a little more oil, and that's never a bad thing.

I did not get to see the pics but maybe this will help you determine what engine your tractor should have. If you look at the left side lower engine cover(the black part) you should see a hole for the exhaust to exit from. If the hole is at the top of the cover, your engine should be a Kohler Magnum 20 (M20).

It should also be the Magnum 20 if the hole is in the front through the grill.

If the hole is towards the bottom of the side cover then your tractor should have the newer Kohler Command 20 (CH20).

I am not quite certain when they changed to the Command engine so if someone else could help with that question please help. Dan

P.S. my dream vacation is to travel to Iceland with my mountain bike and puddle jump through those geothermic mud ponds. If I ever get the green light from the ol' ball and chain, I will mule you any parts you need.....you are not likely to find them in your homeland. :(

Iceland went bankrupt last October and the currency of Iceland, the Krona, I believe, ceased being traded internationally on December 3 of last year. The IMF is helping Iceland, but I am unaware that this has resulted in the Krona regaining status as an international currency. Until it does the Krona does not have value outside of Iceland; it may be physically impossible for our Icelandic friends to buy a membership. If anyone wants to pursue the logistics of granting our Icelandic friends a membership and it is within the rules, feel free to PM me and I will gladly pay for it.
