supermanwv Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I'm not sure what forum this goes in...but: I have a 2004 Craftsman DYT4000 that was given to me not so long ago, I KNOW....CRAFTSMAN, but it was free! Anyway....the thing sat out in the weather for a while and the hood became brittle...and has cracked and busted in numerous spots on the front end...and now will not stay together. I tried riveting it back together using aluminum plates on the inside...but every time I secure a rivet, another piece cracks. So it's not going real well. SO....I'm just planning on buying a hood for it. However, I can't seem to find one used. And new ones are REALLY EXPENSIVE...especially since there are like 4 parts to it. SO MY QUESTION IS...could someone tell me where I might find used parts (HOOD) for this tractor? I've searched online...but nothing was found. I thought maybe, just maybe, someone on here would have something. Thanks for reading, and let me know if you have something or maybe know someone/ or somewhere that does. UCD Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Place a Wanted ad in the classifieds section. Also one on Craigs List.
nateb17010 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 you could try instead of pop riveting it try a light coat of bondo on the under side. sand and paint. I have used bondo on many plastic parts in the past and if you get creative with the patch you can make it look good enough to mow. it just might get u by until you can get a free or cheep simplicity or an AC. good luck
memphis Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 got a picture of yours? I think I might have one./ What color is it?
dentwizz Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Fiberglass cloth and resin coating on inside and out makes a good repair. A little sanding and its virtually like new.
goatfarmer Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Those tractors are pretty popular, they pop up on Craigslist all the time. http://www.adeptr.com/S_L&g.htm Also, look around this site.
