My recently acquired 2010/101 has no spark. It has a 10hp B&S 243431-0123 built in 1966. Here is what i have done. 1. I cleaned and adjusted the points. NO SPARK 2. Checked for shorts, removed stop wire - NO SPARK 3. Replaced the condenser - NO SPARK 4. Replaced points with MegaFire electronic ignition - NO SPARK 5. Flywheel magnet ok, Replaced coil - NO SPARK 6. Replaced plug, third one - NO SPARK 7. Tried different MegaFire - NO SPARK I am out of ideas. Anyone have other ideas? TIA:(

Is the sparkplug grounded? Sometimes the head bolts corrode on the threads and then your head doesn't ground to the block. Try loosening a head bolt and tightening it back up again.

I think you must have checked flywheel key and trqued down flywheel properly ?? Notice I avoided the word asssume !! The points open and close completely ? I'd try the kohler external coil option. power to the coil , line to the points and sparkplug wire from coil to sparkplug .fairly easy to try

Well, I removed the coil, turned it around, and reinstalled it. Bingo, Spark. Now to defend my stupidity... The new coil is an aftermarket, not a genuine B&S. It was not marked "this side out". So, I installed the new one just like the old one was installed. Oh well, at least I've got spark. Thanks for the ideas.

As for the flywheel key...it can be sheared enough for the engine to not run, but you may still have spark. Such makes troubleshooting a lot of fun on occasion.

good to hear you found the problem out, I had a simuler prob. a while back I was tuning up an engine that I pulled out of a tractor. cleaning the fly wheel, taking the carbon off the exhoust valve and top of engine, with a wire wheel before sanding smooth and shinny. well a new gasket, and got everything set cleaned off all the rust set the coil, spin the crank had good spark, put back in the engine, wired it up, hit the starter, no spark, took it back out, found a single wire from the wheel sitting across the coil wire and the back shroud grounding out the coil. removed the wire and spark. so I will now always look and use the air gun to blow off the engine before final assembly. just some thing that happened to me one day in the hog house at my friends farm. no he did not have air in there at that time now he dose.

I've still got the problem. I bought a Wonderboy at a garage sale. The owner showed me it would start when you dump gas in the carb. Got it home, and tore down the carb. Few days later put it back together. No spark. Changed the plug, points and condenser, cleaned the flywheel. Still no spark. That one is not on the back burner, it's off the stove!C

Thing with the points is they have to be PERFECT. I have ground them to look good, then they didnt work. Had to use my dad's magnifier glass to see the imperfections.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
