xenon172 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Does anyone know if you can use a #26 carburetor on a K321 14hp engine. I know they normally have a #30 but would this be doable and what would be the downside of using a #26? Thanks in advance for the help
firefoxz1 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 If this is a fixed jet carb you will run lean which means HOT.
HubbardRA Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 If it has the adjustable main jet, then you can use it. It may lose a little power at WOT, but will have more torque at lower speeds than the larger carb.
xenon172 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 Thanks Rodney for that answer. In this case the jets from a 30 were installed in the 26. I assume that would not cause any problems or change anything in your previous answer. Sorry I didn't state that earlier.
firefoxz1 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 You may run a little rich but I think you should be well within the limits of what the engine can handle. Run it awhile and pull the plug to see if it has a black build up on it. Should work.
HubbardRA Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 The best way to check the plug is to run it a while at WOT, then shut it down without changing the throttle. Pull the plug and look at it. It should be dark tan to light brown. If it is blac, then try the smaller jet and see what the plug looks like with it. Jet size is not directly related to the size of the engine. It is related to the overall vacuum characteristics of the engine. If the engine pulls more vacuum then it will need to be leaner. If it pulls less vacuum, it will need to be richer. This is to get the overall fuel to air ratio correct. I have swapped and re-jetted many carbs.
