OrangeMetalGuy Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Just wondering... haven't checked the Simplicity site lately... do they still build 'em strong as a tank these days? Just wondering how the modern-day tractors compare to our beloved oldies.
xenon172 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 In my opinion nobody makes them as good as they use to. You don't see cast iron gas engines anymore and the steel doesn't seem as thick. But that's just the way I see it and it doesn't make it correct
dentwizz Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 There are many reasons that they changed things with the metal and engines, usually with cost in mind but not always. Some of the engine changes, such as aluminum blocks were for heat dissipation(needed if more power was wanted). Side effect: not as durable. OHV engines, changed because EPA regs(among others, like efficiency). Side effect:complication. They made them good and sturdy back then, but they could not be made the same for reasons of stringent EPA rules and higher construction costs(a Legacy is high enough). Just my take on it.
