Well, I needed to pull the motor for my 7016 and I did a mistake and removed the engine from the still mounted oil pan...dz It may have helped me find a future problem. My oil pan has 2 cracks in it, one on each side in the middle area. may not be a problem now but could be a huge problem in the near future. This might also explain why there is oil around the motor and why it leaks a little. Is it a huge problem for now? Can I fix it?

No these might not be cracks at all? That will actually be a great help! I'll find out after I finish pulling it from the tractor and I clean it off more.

why did you pull your engine anyways? was it hard to start, rebuilding it, power issues? your problem might be an old oil pan gasket. I had a 15hp B&S that had issues running right tried every thing to fix it. then pulled the engine and sure it was a crack in the oil pan gasket. it was a slow leakier I had the same thought when I pulled the pan off. well I put a new gasket and some red rtv and put it to gather. she has ran great ever sense. and is currently in the 7010 puller. good luck hope you get her ready for some work this year.

Let's hope it's just casting lines. Personally, I've never had any luck with JB.

do you have a air compressor with a blow gun ?. if so you dont allways have to pull the engine. pull the sheet metal off the head . get as much of the nest out as you can. long needle nose, coat hanger, shop-vac, compressor air, ect.... after doing that leave the sheet metal off, tighten down the head bolts, and start the engine up. by using a air blow gun and the force of the flywheel air you can get the nest out. rev the engine up and blow air threw the screen and everything where eles you can.

I did this once and was pulling nest particles off me all day, it gets everywhere but it did work:D. I suggest wearing a mask when doing it though.

99.9% sure its just casting marks. Every aluminum pan I have ever had identical lines that look like cracks, and in the same places..

It looks like the pan is still bolted to the tractor, if it is I would take it off and look at the bottem side to see if it looks the same.

Thats my plan, been working on my 101 for the time being. Got it running again :D

As it turns out, the oil pan is the least of my problems... due to the mouse nest causing no air-flow and it being used many times without knowledge of the nest being there, there is severe cracking to the cooling fins behind the coil on the engine.. Some are bad enough that I think that the cracks go all the way into the block itself... I am going to go with a engine replacement.

what are you doing with the old cracked motor? because i got a3416h that needs a starter-generator and the brakets, and a new head.
