I recently finished installing a 12.5 hp Briggs I/C vertical shaft engine in place of my blown up 5 hp. The tractor now only has to run at half throttle to cut grass or pull a trailer. I didn't put the engine on for any reason for it was the only one I had at the time and the whole tractor it came out of was only $100. I had to put the new engine up on 1 inch spacers and grind away some of the steering shaft so it would turn both ways freely. Now obviously the hood does not fit anymore and I had to ad a gas tank above the engine. My wife says I look silly cutting the grass on the serf since I am bigger than the tractor, but it beats walking behind a mower and it gives me something to do.
