Kent Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 was spent on something other than a tractor. But it's my latest attempt at trying to find some mechanical/motorized hobby that Eli and I can share. He seems to have totally lost his interest in tractors... Then, the plan is that it becomes my "4WD golf cart" for getting around my mountain retirement neighborhood. It's a new 2008 Yamaha Rhino 450 Special Edition, a holdover that I found still in the crate in Cross Bay (edge of Long Island), New York. I got a good deal on it -- dealer cost -- I guess they don't sell a lot of ATVs there. Got it home about 7:00 Saturday night. Lemme tell ya, pulling a 14' tandem-axle utility trailer into NYC and back out was an interesting experience for this country boy! :O :p But, I got it home safe and sound. :) Took some pictures yesterday morning, and thought I'd share a few, since it will never be this clean again. Less than 1 mile on it, at this point. I hope to get it REALLY dirty next weekend! Mike Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Kent, first purchase should be a winch, they do get stuck.
daninghram Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 You will have lots of fun with that. Really cool!
Roy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Nice toy. ^ Glad someone is able to keep the economy going. ;)
Kent Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 quote:Originally posted by Roy Nice toy. ^ Glad someone is able to keep the economy going. ;) The fatalistic way I look at it, is that the padded rice of this thing isn't going to significantly effect how hard I personally crash, if I do... :p:D BTW, they're built just south of Atlanta in Newnan Georgia...
Kent Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 quote:Originally posted by Mike Kent, first purchase should be a winch, they do get stuck. Mike, I understand. I just ordered a Milemarker 3500lb winch. Didn't necessarily trust the inexpensive Chinese ones, especially if you're stuck out in the middle of nowhere, but didn't want to pay the $$ for a Warn or Ramsey.... Milemarker makes the winches used on Humvees and other military vehicles, and they're reliable no-frills tools. Hopefully their ATV winch is similar...
Kent Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 quote:Originally posted by MDB Very nice, should keep Eli interested for a while.:D If not, it's my last attempt at engaging this teenager. Now that girls are in the picture, there's no time for "Dad & Eli" bonding experiences... Otherwise, he can check back with "ole Dad" when he turns 30....
MPH Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Ahhhhh, think with a ride like that your turning yuppie on us Kent.:D:D

GregB Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I can understand the teenage thing, Kent. Anthony used to be interested, but has also discovered girls. Now at age 18, between work, school, earning his Eagle Scout rank, girls and planning for college he has little time for my interests either. You just have to trust that you have raised them right, and they will come out OK in the end. Hopefully before the age 30
ReedS Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Looks like it's ready for license plates and an inspection sticker....but I suppose then he'd need a license to go with that!}:) My other project of late has been an Audi quattro......:O
plastikosmd Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 dont worry, just like we did, he will come full circle. Start out with the tractor/car/junk projects...discover women....some time passes and then back to the tractor/car/junk projects!
Michiganmobileman Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Nice Ride, should be fun. quote:Start out with the tractor/car/junk projects...discover women....some time passes and then back to the tractor/car/junk projects! Well said. Once the girls come into the picture they forget Dad quickly. Greg
PGL Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 If Eli ever had to work with a mule, he'd appreciate the tractors more. As long as he's a good kid, you'll just hope he will develop his own healthy interests snd any time you share is just a bonus. That looks like fun, but he may want his own to race you.
Burntime Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 A mail getter! I like it! I was going to buy a gas golf cart and jack it up until I saw the rhino...like it. Of course I am still dreaming about the big kubota;)
