will the electronic ignitions work on the 10 and 12 horse B&S motors if the system has been changed to an automotive style ignition or is it only for the magneto style ignition?

If you are talking about those little aftermarket units they only work on the magneto systems as far as I know. The Briggs magnetron module works great on the magneto systems and are better than the aftermarket systems. I have put several units in snow blowers and tillers and they work great. They have not worked on Tecumseh and Kohler engines so far

The only way to fly is with the Briggs Magnetron module. Part # 394970 for about 18 bucks. Works excellent. I have even used them in Kart racing at 6,800 rpm.

Gary, will the briggs magnatron ignition work in my '64 Landlord without much modification?

Per my email the module works on any 2 leg coil so it should not be a problem. Another thought is the later complete electronic coil assy but I have never been able to ID the correct one. I will post a little more on that in the morning. Gary

Magnetron Ignition on the horizontal older Briggs engines will require the magnets on the flywheel the be properly repolarized by Briggs. They will do this, or used to, for the cost of shipping. The correct polarity is required for properly timing the trigger in the Magnetron module. If I'm remembering all the details correctly.

That was my next question. Is there any late magntron coil that will bolt up and replace the original 23D coil part # 296834 ? The most likley suspect would be the Magntron part # 398811 listed for 7 - 16 hp horz and vert. Given the polorazation thing I expect not. Briggs still lists the coil for just over 100 dollars. It would be interesting to se a service bullitin etc on the repolarizing. I think it is probably not worth sending the flywheel in as the set up is very reliable in stock form. My LL suffered from mouse intrusion and I found a NOS coil for 10 bucks at an engine show. I am just real happy that Simplicity used the 23D. If they used the 23 or 23A with that "magn-matic" set up and it's unrreliable coil there would be dead Landlords all over the place. WAIT !!! That might not be a bad thing ...nice original Landlords that just need a little engine work, works for me.
