I went to the post office today and picked up the tin Erik sent me and here is why: The tin on the right was on an engine that was in a 3212V I won last year. I tore it down after I knew the engine ran (needed to put a carb on it to test it) as the rest was a basket case. The engine turned out to be a transplanted 16HP:D. I did not notice till a month ago when I got around to cleaning the engine that the bottom of the shroud tin and backing was rotted off on the bottom:(. Hopefully within the week I will have it clean and painted. Has anybody else run across one so rotted?

you are welcome...I had no idea that someone would want these. They were destined for the scrap yard. I have another if someone wants (price of shipping only)...otherwise, it is off to the local scrap yard. However, local members get a different deal: you can have it for free, but I get to give you some other scrap item of my choice to go along with the shroud!:D

if I was closer I would be all over it. yes I have and i just bent some scrap sheet metal and using my meg I wielded it up good as new. it just takes a little time. if we scrap all our rusty things in stead of restoring them we will just run out of parts.

Dave: That far rotted and the flywheel and block where OK. Then again I can see no harm to this flywheel either. Nate, That was an option but no need when I saved a good one from going instead of this one;).

Not to be a contrarion, but if I keep all my scrap with the intent of someday restoing it, I will be divorced, live in an apratment, and have no need for tractors at all. :D

this is some of the "scrap" I fix back as close to original as I can. I just can't discard all my "scrap" it belongs to a tractor and part of restoring one is to keep it as original as I can. so on a rainy day or winter I take some time to fix, wield, fabricate what I can. if I fail at lest I can say I tried. I get a joy out of repairing busted up parts. when you grow up with a wielder and a torch in your hand and heard or stories from your grand parents of fix it until it can't be fixed no more. my grandpa was a new stile black smith. and my dad is a tool-n-die specialist. both very smart and tried to learn as much as I can from them, but I still have lot to learn.
