eagle5473 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I just picked up a 52 inch blower, and seem to have a bad spot rotator motor. I now they are window motoers has any one found them for a reasonable price anyware?
Simpleton7016 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 they show up on e-bay all the time. I got 2 for $53, but I have seen them go (when I am not in need:)) in the $15 range.
AcFordHawk Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 The window motors from late 1960's to early 1970's GM cars will work. Got one for $10 at local junk yard but had to swap the motor since it had the opposite side gear box on it. If you do an archive search there have been several posts on the spout rotators. Just did a quick archive search and topic ID 74663 dated 1/13/2007 has my 2 cents worth posted with pics on the comparison of the the original and the junk yard replacement.
comet66 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Try a lite rap with a screwdriver handle or the like. Some times the brushed stick and just need to be bumped lose.
UCD Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 As john said, I have also found that the grease in the worm gear case gets dry and hard and the motor can not turn it. Take the gear box apart clean it and re-grease with a good grease and it should work fine. The biggest reason these motors got replaced in cars was because of the grease harding
wilm169 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I have found also that the cable on the rotor was to tight and check the ground on them.
eagle5473 Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 thanks I took the gear head off, and it is still bad seem like a short somewhere
mdmre Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I would suggest you take a look at www.surpluscenter.com They usually have some small motors just like you would need.
UCD Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 How are you powering the motor? Some motors are internaly grounded through the motor case and to reverse the motor you alternate the two wires to positive. one wire on positive with the motor case on ground to reverse you remove that wire and place the other wire on positive. This motor uses a SPDT switch Other motors are externaly grounded these motors you reverse the motor by swithing the two wires between positive and ground one wire on positive one on negitive then switch them to reverse. This motor uses a DPDT switch
