Bad starter

Recommended Posts

Hi All, Today I was changing fluids and doing other stuff on my 7116h, I had to unhooked the rod for the front pto, but when I put it back I put it in the upper hole on the bracket. I did not realised that it was touching the plastic cover on the positive wire on the starter, later I tried to start it but would not start,I saw some smoke coming from the starter and saw the rod from the front pto was touching the nut on the positive wire on the starter. Know with the key off it seems like it is trying to start by it self, I had to disconnect the battery so it would stop trying to start. Do I need a new starter, or can I rebuild it, or is it something else? Thanks Fernando

Levi, The battery is fine. Dan, I think you are right, when I put a meter on the side that goes to the starter is reading 12 volts, the key is off and the small wire that goes to the solenoid is disconnected. Could I get one at Napa or do I have to go to dealer. Thanks for your replies Fernando
