I'm refering to the "solenoid" I keep reading about. What is it's function? What happens if it is not working properly? Thanks for the info. GordU

If there isn't a solenoid you need a key switch and a starter button. If you have one you can just have a key switch but it has three postions(off-on-start) insted of two (off-on). I do not know much of the technical data.

The carburator solenoid shuts off the fuel supply as soon as the ignition key is turned off (you can hear it click on and off when 12 volts is applied to it). In addition to being a secondary shut off mechanism (the motor will only run for a second or two without the solenoid open), it also prevents backfire problems by preventing unburned fuel from reaching the muffler after engine shut off.
