Why Sovereigns were Discontinued

The young men who moved to the ‘burbs back in the ‘60s and ‘70s and liked that sort of “do it all” tractor aren’t young anymore. I mount my 7010 and 7012 like they were a horse (swing my leg over the back of the seat – most of the time I make it). Just got a ’96 Sovereign and the seat back is several inches higher. Now I have to “step through” the frame, and that’s pretty high too. The “Baby Boomers” are getting stiff in all the wrong places and need (buy) the drop frame Regents, Broadmoors, Landlords, and Legacys.

Dutch, think you got it figured right, seeing a winter low temp of 74 below just ain't the challange it used to be. MPH

Hey Dutch I'll buy that idea as my joints just don't work all that well either ha. The step thru design on my Broadmoor works so well that I almost head for that "lawn tractor" all the time unless I need to do some heavy work and that's not something I look forward to either. >>->happyjack<-<<

Chad, It looks just like your ACGO918 except for the engine (I believe yours is newer with the Kohler TH) and no wheel covers. Toward the end, Simplicity must have made identical tractors and just applied different decals for the Sovereign, ACGO918, and MF2818. Do you miss the more colorful brand identifiers of years past?

DUTCH; i miss the allis chalmers name very much.no the other bad news is with in the next 1yr to 1 1/2 agco-allis will be off the tractors .just agco.no more white.what is the ag industry coming to when they have to change names all of the time .got use to agco-allis now will have to get use to agco.agco918 the good days are long gone.agco918 your tractor should be the same as you said .just thought you might send a picture in to kent with maybe a roller hooked up.agco918

My local dealer still has 2 new Sovereigns on the floor. When I saw them I thought "Cool, so this is the brute everyone on the Simplicity forum is talking about! Let me just try one on for size!".... Like you say, you have to be a contortionist to get on and off the thing. I have too many aches and pains to mess with that. I like old machines, don't get me wrong. But for me and the wife and the young teenagers, I'll take a flat deck and quiet smooth twins and all the power this and that, thanks. So I scurried away from the Sovereign with my tail between my legs, feeling slightly less manly, and humbled. :-)
