Guest
I own a Simplicity Landlord and need to learn more about them. About the only thing I know is it is built like a battleship and is a rugged tractor. Many questions: Just what do I have? What is the HP rating? Where is the serial number located? When were they built? It has a single cylinder cast iron Briggs engine with Delco starter/generator combo. The points are on the side of the block, but it has an automotive style coil bolted to the cyl. head. Is this normal? It has a 3 speed variable drive transmission. Mine developed an engine knock late in the season and I'll be going through it. Due to the mismatched engine shroud colors I think someone has been in it before. I need to identify the engine and get it torn down soon. Email me if you can help. Thanx & adios, DickB
TomF
Sounds like it was built between the mid 60s and mid 70s. Original engine was probably about 10hp. Post a picture, or some numbers, and I'm sure somebody will be able to tell you more.

Guest
I have exact tractor, made in l971 with 10hp cast iron B&S engine. Found tractor in l996, one-owner with deck, rear tiller, wheel weights, chains and original owners manual for all above. If you wish I can copy and sent to you. Also, I had engine rebuilt shortly after acquiring, if I can find invoices the guy who rebuilt it included part #s etc. The coil you describe on top is standard for that model I recently had to have Delco starter rebuilt and replace the voltage regulator. Reply back if I can help.
