Using up spare parts from a wide variety of tractors, this is whats coming together..

The main frame is a 1976 Allis 712H. This has been attached to a 1975 Allis 712 Shuttle rear end and bevel gear box. The gear box was pretty good save for the threaded stub that holds the PTO cap on was busted off. I drilled and tapped the end of the PTO shaft and now hold the cap on with a bolt. Rear Wheels are from a 410S, as is the control lever and quadrant. Had to drill holes in the cowl to mount the quadrant. Fuel tank is from a 3300 series, seat deck is from a 3416H, starter solenoid is from a John Deere 212, shift rod is from a 3012V, shift rod bracket is from a 2010, brake rod is from a 3410S, Tie rod is from a 3100 series I think. Lift lever is off a 914S. Steering wheel is from a early 900 series?. I don't know what the engine is out of, but a Wards /Gilson would be a fair guess.

I cant take credit for the engine transplant, or the frame mods. The 712H came this way, though not running. Whoever did this, did a great job of engineering, but when it came to the wiring they totally dropped the ball. wires cut and spliced all over with two circuit breakers..???...I don't know what they were thinking. The major problem I found was that they ran a hot lead out of the kohler battery ignition key switch and into the magnetron and fried it. I assume this is when they threw up their hands and hauled it to the auction.

The side panels were gone from it when I got there as was the air cleaner assembly. I got another twin ( albeit vertical shaft) at a auction in a newer roper tractor for $20 and robbed the mag, shrouding and air filter assembly from it. Had to drill some new mount holes in the air cleaner base, but it works. frame around the muffler had to be trimmed so the hood will clear. Using a early 700 series hood as the one that came with this tractor had already been hacked up. I'm planning on installing a pipe attachment on the muffler outlet and cutting a hole in the grill for it to pass through . Basically the same way a 9020 muffler goes out the front and to the side somewhat.

The seat assembly came from the Roper as well. We will have to see how this project fares. I got it running and adjusted so it operates well overall, but there are some issues. I found the axle tube to be cracked after I pumped grease into the fitting and it started to come out between there and the differential in a 1.5" crack. I 'm not going to get excited about swapping it out yet, as it may hold up just to run a mower and frame mount vac a few hours a year. I have another shuttle here if it does completely break off though. The other interesting situation is when I towed the garbage down the lane it all of a sudden started chugging out white billowing smoke like a coal fired locomotive, but that only lasted about 25 seconds, then it quit and hasn't done it since. Any ideas ?...anyone??? I'll post some more pics as I keep going

Hey for your axle, get a heavy duty muffler clamp... you'll have to cut about a 1/2" off the threads so it doesn't hit the brake, but put that around your axle to hold it together at the crack. I have one on mine and it's working well.

I have seen uglier tractors (like my first...and still most favorite) described as other folks "pride and joy".

I followed your advice and put one onm. I drilled a hole in the back side of the bracket part of the clamp for the grease zerk to stick through and clamped it over the zerk. Like you say, should keep the crack from opening up and spreading.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
