Have any of you made your own steel or cast wheel weights? I have access to a shop that can do pretty much anything I need so please share your ideas, tips or tricks you have learned along the way.

Years ago I had access to some "extra" 1/2" steel plate and "free talent" to cut 8 circles (10 1/16" diameter if I remember correctly) from the plate. I had to drill the bolt holes. They mount inside the wheel. You can see one of them mounted on the outside of a purchased weight on my Homelite T-12:

I had to cut an inner circle out of one of the plates to clear the right axle stub. Still use the plates in various combinations with other weights. As to the mounting holes, I initialy drilled 1/2" holes, but they were very snug and difficult to mount. I enlarged them to 9/16", much easier mounting A neighbor had access to some 2 1/2" plate and had a pair of circles cut. They are a bear to mount, but sure are heavy.
