Solution for powerking_one - Umbrella Dust Seal

I wanted to add this post to Tom's post "Axel & wheel spindle mods on Big Tens' family" (http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/portal_External.asp?LinkID=147&LinkName=Front%20Axle%20&%20Spindle%20Upgrades&CatID=42&CatTitle=Front&URL=http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=10571) but the topic's locked. Maybe an admin type can add it?? BTW, my name for this mod is: Poorman's Power Steering. My solution for "an ‘umbrella’ type dust seal to cover the thrust bearing/washer stack" is:

A 27” x 1 3/8” (700mm x 35mm) bike inner tube (it's about 3/4” ID uninflated). The “seal” installed on the bottom of the front axle (rolled up):

Insert the spindle assembly with the thrust-bearing/washer stack in place:

Roll down the tube to cover the bearing/washer stack:

From the above pics, you can see that the seal doesn’t rotate with the bearing/washer stack. Lots of grease will be in there, so hopefully the rubber will last. Only time will tell. And for reference, this is the bearing/washer stack:
