Briggs 16hp valve to tappet clearance

I have a Briggs 16 hp 326431 engine and would like to know how to adjust the valve to tappet clearance when it is too wide. Do you have to have the ends of the valves built up with weld? Thanks. Gary.

Gary, How much clearance do you have? I set mine at .009" for intake and .018" for the exhaust. If you have only a few thou. more, you can take the engine to an automotive machine shop and have the valve and seat surfaces touched up. If that is not possible, you may have to replace the valves. New valves are expensive, but possibly someone has some good used ones from a junk engine. Good luck, Jim
