Time for some good ol' fabbing

Well, I have to admit this thread is a shameless cross-post, but I wanted to share here as well and pick all your brains as I go! With the AC 912 almost back together after paint and engine work, I've set my mind towards simple accessories I can build to improve my life :D In the relatively near future, I'm planning a boom lift and a log arch. May or may not work in my multi mount winch depending on which way I want to take things. However, first off is making a sleeve hitch and rear lift assembly. Knocked this guy out in a few after work tonight. The CNC Press at work sure comes in handy (as will the plasma table down the road)!! But hopefully soon I can update the thread will all sorts of fun dOd

I built this based off a measured drawing found here (although I used 2 x .250), so thanks for that! So far it seems to fit great. Now I just have to finish the upper portion and make my own version of the rear lift group pieces. This one is built with what I understand to be the "new style" tube at 3.25". I did cut a 4" tube as well and may just throw another one together for "older style" attachments, or may just use a spacer like has been suggested... Either way, these things go together pretty quick and luckily I have a metal fab shop at my disposal 8D

Well, stayed after work again since the lady got called in to work. I know this isn't a garden tractor accessory per say, but it will be used with my upcoming log arch quite frequently... I've wanted a peavey or cant hook for a while and never got around to buying one. Having some time to kill, I just went ahead and made one. This is a very quick drawing I did and exported over to the plasma table just to see how things would work. On my final hook drawing, I'll be cleaning up some of the lines, making any necessary adjustments, and also cutting it out of .250 (this was only .188). Then just grabbed some light tabs we had laying around since they were right there in front of me. Found some rod in the scrap pile which seemed like it'd fit the bill. Cut @ 45° And welded back into an angled point for the cant hook style. We have tons of 1 3/4 .120 wall hanging on the wall so I just grabbed that for a handle. Doesn't feel too big so I ran with it. Drilled through so I could add some plug welds just because overkill is fun. And then erased the evidence. Lastly, wanted to cap the end to avoid crap getting inside. Took the hole saw and made a nice little cap. And then cleaned 'er up. Finished product minus paint and final hook. Like I said, I know it isn't specifically tractor related. But they'll have fun playing together!

Well, I've wanted a log arch for a while and now have an excuse to build one. I mean come on... all the cool firewooders have them :o) We had a bunch of 2X3 box tube heading to scrap so I made use of it. Most was already cut at 45s from building sliders. So I stuck 'em together, braced with tube, and bent up some reinforcing plates for the corners. Considering I'm still a novice welder, I thought they turned out decent enough to work. Then gandered up at the steel wall and saw some 2" that looked like it'd do the trick. Popped in the die and went to work. All the log arches I've seen have the diagonal through braces, so I knocked some out of 1 1/4 and burned them in. Well, I wanted a little more support where the 2" attached to the top 2x3 rather than just a butt weld, so I drew this up in CAD and sent it over to the plasma. And bent it up on the Accupress. Getting everything tacked in straight and plumb was a pain with only me there. Burned inside and out. And finally capped and ground. I still have a few more tubes to go on. Specifically ones from the base of the arch to the long tube to add for/aft rigidity. But I ran out of steam, so that's all for now. Have some 5 lug trailer tires/wheels that will be going on this once I grab some spindles. Will be putting on either a ball coupler or more likely a pintle. And either a hand crank boat trailer style winch or may get naughty and hook up my multi mount Warn for log lifting duty. :J
